We aim to bring people together through the universal languages of storytelling and food. Our plan is to organise—or support local communities in Kent in organising—monthly story- and food-sharing evenings where people from diverse backgrounds can connect, share, and celebrate their cultures. These gatherings will take place in local community centers, fostering inclusivity, understanding, and a sense of belonging.
At these events, attendees will have the opportunity to hear stories from different parts of the world—whether folk tales passed down through generations or deeply personal accounts of migration, resilience, and heritage. Storytelling has a unique power to bridge gaps between people, allowing them to step into each other’s lives and experiences. By sharing these narratives, we hope to build empathy and appreciation for the richness of our diverse community.
Alongside storytelling, food will play a central role in these evenings. Participants will bring and share home-cooked dishes that reflect their cultural heritage. Food is more than just sustenance—it carries history, tradition, and a deep sense of identity. By tasting flavours from different corners of the world, attendees will not only enjoy delicious meals but also gain insight into the customs and experiences of their neighbors.
These events will be welcoming and informal, open to everyone in the community, regardless of background. Whether someone wants to share a story, bring a dish, or simply listen and enjoy the atmosphere, they will be encouraged to participate in a way that feels comfortable to them.
Ultimately, our goal is to create a warm, inclusive space where people can connect meaningfully, learn from one another, and celebrate the diverse stories and flavors that make up the rich cultural tapestry of Kent.
Community Engagement
Educhange intercultural events (working towards Community cohesion and dialogue) to start in late 2025
Refugees and asylum seekers are among the most resilient, determined, and peace-driven individuals, carrying a profound commitment not only to rebuild their own lives but also to making meaningful contributions to their new communities. At Edu-Change, we are dedicated to fostering tolerance, peace, and community cohesion by promoting shared knowledge such as storytelling, cultural exchange, and facilitating open dialogue across diverse local communities in Canterbury and across Kent. Through these initiatives, we hope to create a safe space for understanding, unity, and mutual respect, building stronger, more inclusive communities in Kent and beyond.
